A BROTHER and sister have been given a purrfect Christmas gift after learning that their pet cat Toffee is officially a star!
It was little Sophie Edmenson’s idea to enter their feline into the Mail’s Star Pets competition because of the way he sits.
So with the help of the 10-year-old’s big brother Jamie Edmenson, 17, the pair snapped the cat in his favourite position and sent it to the Mail.
And 18-month-old Toffee beat off stiff competition from the dozens of other furry friends that had been entered into the contest and was announced winner today.
So Toffee’s little quirk has earned Jamie and Sophie the £25 prize to spend on cat treats, or whatever they like.
Jamie, who lives in Ettrick Walk, in the Owton Manor area of Hartlepool, with Sophie and their mum Julie Edmenson, said: “It was Sophie’s idea to enter Toffee into the competition so I helped her.
“It was simply because of the way he sits!
“He started off doing it when he was a kitten, he’d sit on your knee like that, but now he does it by himself.”
The student at Hartlepool Sixth Form College, in Blakelock Road, said: “My sister was chuffed to bits that Toffee had won, we all were really.
“We didn’t think we’d win but we’re glad we tried now. We’ll have to have a think about what we’re going to spend it on.”
