This year’s theme is Spoo-Quay Busters and budding ghosthunters are invited to go along and track down the ghouls which will be lurking around the quayside.

To add to the fun there will be entertainment from Red Dreams and the students of East Durham College, including a creepy mummy exhibit and haunting shadow puppet theatre. There will be spine-tingling storytelling on board HMS Trincomalee, spooky craft sessions and a chance to come face to face with some real-life creepy crawlies.

Visitors are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite Halloween characters and there will be spot prizes for the best and also for the best children’s pumpkin.

To meet popular demand the event, sponsored by Niramax Total Waste Solutions, is taking place on two nights of Wednesday, October 30, and Halloween itself on Thursday, October 31, from 5.30pm to 8pm.

Wendy Rogan, senior operations manager at the Maritime Experience, said: “In true Spoo-Quay style there will be lots of delicious thrills and chills for all the family.

“Please remember to book early to avoid disappointment, last year’s event was a sell out.”

Tickets cost £4.25 per person but under twos are free. Family tickets, for two adults and up to three children, are priced £15.50.

They are available from the Hartlepool Tourist Information Centre in Church Square or by telephone on (01429) 890000.
