VIDEO: Bulldog spirit on show at Hartlepool event

THE bulldog spirit was well and truly on show when proud pooches went on display during a town event.

The fourth annual Northern Bulldog Day was held at the Rossmere Centre, in Rossmere Way, Hartlepool, yesterday.

There are only two such bulldog days held nationally, one in Newark for the south and the one in Hartlepool for the north.

More than 120 bulldogs padded into the event from all over the country.

There were pooches from as far away as Lincolnshire, Scotland, Portsmouth, Plymouth and Essex.

The aim of the event was to celebrate the distinctive breed and educate people who are thinking about getting a bulldog.

Last year’s event raised £1,600 for Bulldog Rescue, though the proceeds from this year’s Bulldog Day are still being counted.

The programme of activities included a fancy dress competition, with one bulldog even sitting in a tank, as well as a puppy parade and children’s corner.

There was also a raffle drawn by Mail deputy chief photographer Frank Reid.

Hartlepool event organiser Michelle Stonehouse, who owns two adult and two puppy bulldogs, said: “We had a really fantastic, happy day, it was great to see so many people enjoy themselves and everybody’s bulldog was well-behaved.”
