FAMILIES across Hartlepool took advantage of the warm weather to enjoy a host of cool activities over a sun-soaked summer weekend.
The sun was shining all weekend with temperatures hitting highs of around 16C and many areas of Hartlepool were packed with people enjoying the bright sunshine and warmer weather.
Mail photographer Frank Reid visited Rossmere Park, Ward Jackson Park, Seaton Carew and the Headland to take photographs of young and old – all out and about enjoying the sun.
Families took the opportunity to enjoy an ice cream, play football in the park, splash about in the paddling pool and take a dip in the North Sea.
Traders at Seaton Carew enjoyed a busy weekend and they say the popular tourist spot really comes alive in the sunshine.
Les Hodgman is the owner of Young’s fish and chip shop on The Front at Seaton.
The 38-year-old said: “Trade is always a lot busier when the sun shines.
“Seaton Carew relies on the good weather and it would be great if we could get more attractions down here.”
Jodie Edwards, 26, who works as a sales assistant at Seaton Gift and Rock Shop, said: “It hasn’t been a great year weather-wise so far but the forecast looks to have improved.
“We are looking forward to a busy summer.”
Carl Magill, head chef at Red Grill Bar, said: “Seaton does get quiet during the winter period, but when the sun comes out you really see the benefit.
“We triple our takings when the weather is like this and it gets really busy.”
He added that Seaton Carew would benefit further from more things for children to do and improved car parking facilities.
The weekend is set to be the best weather of the week though with weather today forecast to be cloudy and cool to start with before some sunshine develops as the day wears on.
Winds are expected to be light with temperatures no higher than 13C.
Temperatures look set to rise on Tuesday to around 18C but the clouds will form over the course of the day, meanwhile Wednesday is set to be breezy, with patchy rain but highs of around 19C.
