GAME-FOR-A-LAUGH dental staff threw themselves into Movember by growing impressive moustaches and dressing up in funny costumes.
Fourteen members of staff from Queensway Dental Clinic in Billingham showed off their new looks as the campaign comes to a close after raising money throughout the month.
On the first of November seven dentists, five dental laboratory staff, an accounts manager and stock controller put away their razors and started growing their moustaches for the duration of the month.
The national campaign raises money and awareness and research into men’s cancers.
Between them, they raised more than £700 from generous patients and colleagues, and they hope to achieve a £1,000 target.
The group who named themselves “the hairy dentists” also dressed up in various costumes to match their moustache, and uploaded the pictures to Facebook for people to vote for their favourites.
Outfits included Zorro, Ali G, Freddie Mercury, Super Mario, and a hillbilly.
Dentist Paul Howlett, said: “Most of us had never taken part in Movember before so collectively we decided it was a good idea to do it all together.
“My father-in-law is currently ill with prostate cancer so it had a particularly personal resonance with me. It’s been a lot of fun and doing it as part of a group has certainly made it easier.”
Every November thousands of men across the UK take part in Movember. The money raised in the UK supports the two biggest male specific cancers – prostate and testicular cancer.
