29 amazing pictures of our biggest lightning storm in years

The biggest lightning storm we've had in years lit up the night sky in the North East last night.

And our readers were quick to grab their phones and cameras and send us some of their spectacular images.

Some were out and about while others stayed safe and dry at home.

They sent us an amazing array of images - of forked, sheet and bolts of lightning.

The storm was accompanied by heavy downpours, which gave our gardens a much-needed soaking after the recent heatwave.
