£355,000 taxpayers’ bill for union work

AROUND £355,000 of taxpayers money was spent on council, police and health service union representatives in the last financial year.

Campaigners at the taxpayer’s Alliance say Durham County Council spent £129,841 on union reps work, while Hartlepool Borough Council forked out £59,149 from April 2011 to 2012.

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust shelled out £23,083 on the work while the North East Ambulance’s total reached £65,352.

Cleveland Police spent £28,853, while Durham Constabulary’s bill hit £49,051.
