MORE than £400,000 of work to the gas network in Hartlepool will take six months to complete.

Northern Gas Networks is investing more than £445,000 to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in Hartlepool.

The project is part of Northern Gas Networks’ ongoing development of infrastructure across the North of England and involves replacing 6km of existing gas main with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to our customers in the area for years to come.

The essential work commenced in Davidson Drive yesterday and is expected to take around six months to complete.

As part of this project, it will be necessary to carry out work in roads including: Davidson Drive; West View Road; Miers Avenue; Bruce Crescent; Gardside Avenue; Arkley Crescent; West View Road; Warren Road; Winterbottom Avenue; and Wells Avenue.

Gordon Thompson, customer operations area manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have planned our work closely with the local highways department and will be carrying out our work in phases to keep traffic disruption to a minimum.

“Our customer care officers have been door knocking in the area to let residents know about the upcoming work and we will continue to keep our customers updated throughout the project via our website, Twitter and Facebook accounts and the local media.”

Mr Thompson added: “We would like to take this opportunity to apologise to members of the public for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank our customers for their continued support.”
