SIX hundred people have bought tickets to watch celebrities battle it out on the football pitch.
Stars from shows such as EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale are expected to be involved in a charity match in Billingham on Sunday, July 28.
Proceeds will go to the Jo and Mya Memorial Fund which was founded and is run by Ian Richardson.
Ian formed the fund in memory of his wife Joanne, 40, and eldest daughter Mya, aged six, who died in a car accident in August 2010.
Ian and his daughter Ava, now aged three, survived the crash.
The charity supports children who have lost loved ones.
Ian, from Billingham and who runs an online retail firm in Hartlepool, said: “A lot of events for the charity seem to be gathering momentum at the moment.”
The match will be part of a day of entertainment, from noon to 5pm at the home of Billingham Synthonia Football Club, in Belasis Avenue.
Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for children. Ian said the celebrities to appear will depend on their filming schedules. There will also be a chance to meet the stars and an opportunity to become ball boys and ball girls.
But that’s not the only boost for the memorial fund.
On Saturday, a team representing the fund will be competing in a fun day event at Stockton Riverside College Bede Sixth Form College, in Marsh House Avenue, in Billingham.
It runs from 1pm and the Jo and Mya team will be joining forces with competitors representing a charity for cystic fibrosis sufferers.
Both events are the latest in a series of money-spinners for the fund and there are more to come.
Ian plans to organise an event which has now become an annual attraction. The Little Yomp will see hundreds of adults and their children walk to the top of Roseberry Topping, on the border between Redcar and Cleveland and North Yorkshire.
He is also planning a tattoo convention later in the year – and more details on both events are expected to be announced soon.
Runners will also be representing the fund in events such as the Great North Run in September.
