CRIMPER Alison Scattergood is on a high after brushing off the opposition to become the first woman crowned a British Master Barber.

Only a handful of hairdressing professionals have clinched the accolade and the East Durham College lecturer is the first female.

This is the latest milestone in Alison’s illustrious career and she is thrilled with the honour.

The Peterlee stylist was this week presented with a special plaque naming her a British Master Barber.

This is the second level awarded by the British Master Barbers’ Alliance, after the Professional Level, and before the Grand Master Level.

Alison said: “This is a huge achievement for me and I am so shocked. It’s a huge surprise.

“Being made a British Master Barber is a huge honour and to become the first female to receive this status is a very proud moment.”

Nationally-renowned barber Chris Moon, who is also a British Master Barber, travelled to East Durham College’s Peterlee Campus to meet Alison and present her with the award.

Chris said: “This is a huge achievement for Alison, and not many people currently have British Masters Barbers status.

“Alison is a fantastic barber and, along with her own skills, the work she puts in to mould the barbers of tomorrow here at East Durham College doesn’t go unnoticed.

“Congratulations to Alison and it’s great to have her aboard as a British Master Barber.”

Alison is keen to share her skills with future students and anyone who would like more information about barbering courses at East Durham College, can visit, or contact student services on 0191 518 8222.
