Animal cruelty charges

A WOMAN accused of seven counts of cruelty to animals failed to turn up to court.

Judith Rowe, 49, is charged with causing unnecessary suffering to various animals between September 7 and October 5 last year.

Rowe, of High Street, Greatham, on the outskirts of Hartlepool, accused of failing to investigate the poor body condition and weight loss of four rabbits and a guinea pig.

Rowe is also charged with failing to provide proper and necessary dental care and treatment for two rabbits and failing to provide proper care for a rabbit and a grey chicken.

She is also charged with failing to provide a suitable diet and fresh drinking water for 15 rabbits and a guinea pig, failing to provide a suitable environment for 14 rabbits, a guinea pig, five chickens and two dogs and failing to provide proper parasitic treatment for 14 rabbits and five chickens.

Rowe, who has not yet entered pleas, did not turn up at Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court.

The case was ajourned until April 18.
