A CLOSE-KNIT community is to host a fun day this weekend.

The event is taking place at the Belle Vue Community Sports and Youth Centre, in Kendal Road, Hartlepool, on Saturday, August 30.

It will take place from 11am until 3pm and organisers have arranged a host of fun activities for people of all ages to enjoy.

The inter-generational event has come about thanks to a group of young people at the centre who secured some funding through Youth Focus North East for a project.

After meeting with bosses from the Belle Vue Centre, they decided to host a fun day next weekend and Kendal Road will be closed outside of the centre for the duration of the event.

Activities on the day include fairground rides, face painting, balloon making, a staff versus children football match, a rodeo bull and bouncy castle.

Everyone at the centre is looking forward to the day.

Leanne Brown, activity project co-ordinator for under-11s at the centre, said: “The children, along with centre staff and some of the local residents sat down together and decided to hold a summer fun day.

“It is inter-generational so is aimed at people of all ages.

“We are all looking forward to a fun day and there is plenty going on for people of all ages.

“We are just hoping the weather is good because it should be a great day for all the family.”

Entry to the fun day, which will take place inside and outside of the centre, but there will be a small charge for some of the rides.

It is not the first time the centre has held a summer fun day and the road has been closed in the past to allow everyone to enjoy a safe day.

Meanwhile, Belle Vue Community Sports and Youth Centre, is hosting an American Wrestling show on Sunday, August 31 at 7pm.

Tickets cost £8 each and are available from the centre.

For more information or tickets people should pop into the centre, in Kendal Road, or call (01429) 221832.
