PEOPLE turned out in force to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea at a village community centre.

Greatham Community Centre hosted the successful event which attracted around 100 guests in their summer finery.

They were served up a traditional English afternoon tea by volunteers acting as waitresses.

The event was put on by the Greatham Line Dancing Group who hold a weekly class at the community centre in Front Street.

It has become an annual event to raise much needed funds towards the upkeep of the centre in Front Street.

Dorothy Clark, chairman of Greatham Community Association, which manages the centre, said: “The afternoon raised a total of £817 which was amazing and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

“The line dancing group have held it for the last three years for the refurbishment of the centre. There was about 90 people there and it was really excellent.”

Greatham Community Centre has added two new classes to its programme of activities.

A new Zumba fitness class run by Amy Ford started last Saturday and takes place from 10.30am-11.30am.

And the Carol Hammond Dance School will be at the centre throughout August starting on Wednesday, August 7, for children aged from 18 months upwards.
