Anyone for tennis at Eldon Grove?

With Wimbledon underway, Eldon Grove Tennis Club are serving up a tennis treat closer to home this weekend, writes MATTHEW HENRY.

The club are hosting a free-to-all afternoon of tennis as part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s Great British Tennis Weekend.

The treat of tennis for all ages will include, the chance for players to measure their serve speed, mini tennis, beat the pro competitions, family and social tennis, as well as games with a ball machine.

Eldon Grove club secretary Jan Palmer said: “Anyone coming to the event can expect to find a family friendly atmosphere with the opportunity to have a go at tennis for free.

“Also there’s the chance to meet with members of the club and view the facilities available

She added: “Children can join in with fun ball games, mini tennis, and take on the challenge of ‘Beat the Pro’ with a prize for the best competitor.”

As well tennis, the day will also include a cake stall, raffle, tombola and barbecue.

Jan said: “Last year’s open day was a huge success with over 100 people attending over the day.

“This year is a similar programme with the addition of our ball machine and serving speedometer for keen enthusiasts and beginners alike.”

The afternoon of tennis is on Saturday, June 28, from 2pm until 5pm at Eldon Grove Tennis Club and all equipment is provided.
