A LONGSTANDING town tennis club is hoping to court new members when it holds open sessions this weekend.
Hartlepool Lawn Tennis Club, in Granville Avenue, Hartlepool, has been running since the early 1900s and currently boasts 150 members.
It has five courts and teams and activities for both children and adults.
This weekend, the club is holding free open events in support of the Great British Tennis Weekend run by the national Lawn Tennis Association’s drive to get more people playing the sport.
Tom Rayner, from the club, said: “It’s about trying to get more people into tennis to give people a taste.”
Both children and adults are welcome, however, the club would like to see people aged 20 to 50 years old as there is a shortage of this age group.
Families with children over the age of six are also encouraged to go along.
Tom added: “Come along and have a taste of tennis and see what facilities we offer. We’re a family-orientated club and it’s very social. It’s a good way of meeting people.”
The open sessions for kids over six years to adults are from 12pm until 4pm tomorrow, and from 2pm until 4pm on Sunday.
Rackets and refreshments will be provided.
For those who take to the sport and wish to continue playing there are Junior sessions from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, and 10am until 12pm on Saturdays at a cost of £3 per session or £45 a year. Adult slots are on Tuesdays from 6pm until 8pm, and Thursday from 9am until 12pm.
