Appeal after cruel baby grave theft

HEARTLESS thieves who stole sentimental items from a baby’s grave have been slammed.

The family of the six-month-old baby girl have been left devastated after a number of items were stolen from the grave in Stranton Cemetery, off Brierton Lane, in Hartlepool.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward and help them catch the cruel thieves.

The items stolen were ornamental decorations, including a white ceramic pot watering can with multi-coloured polka dots which was around 10in high and a solid glass globe or orb with a pewter fairy on the top, which measured 6in high.

PC Pete Doherty, of Hartlepool Police, said: “The family of the child have been left extremely upset by what has happened.

“To think that someone would be so cruel as to steal from a child’s grave

is deplorable.

“I would encourage anyone with information to contact police in order to help us bring this person to justice.”

The family do not want to be identified.

Officers investigating the case say both items were stolen between Thursday, July 21 and Thursday, July 28.

Anyone with information about the latest theft, or anyone who knows where the items may be, is asked to call PC Doherty on (01642) 302178 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
