Armed police alert after reports of teens with a gun in street

The trio were spotted carrying what was believed to a gun on a footpath at around 4.40pm, yesterday.

They had been walking in the Low Grange area of Billingham close to Wolviston Back Lane.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said inquiries led officers to an address where it was confirmed the firearm was fake.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "Police received a report that three males had been seen on a public footpath, believed to be in possession of a firearm.

"A search of the area was carried out in order to trace the males. Inquiries led officers to an address where it was confirmed that the firearm was not a genuine firearm and words of advice were given to those involved."

No arrests were made.
