A NEWSAGENT’S was robbed by a man claiming he was armed.

Cora’s, in Vicarage Gardens, Hartlepool, was targeted at 1.50pm yesterday.

Shop staff said a man claimed he was “armed and demanded money from the till”.

A police community support officer (PCSO) stood guard outside the shop yesterday afternoon as enquiries began.

A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and was being quizzed at Hartlepool Police Station, in Avenue Road, last night.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “We would appeal for anyone with information about this incident to contact the police.”
