Assault victim, 14, scared to go out

THE teenage victim of a vicious assault outside a bakery says she is now scared to go to the shops.

Police say a 14-year-old girl had been standing outside Greggs, in Brenda Road, Hartlepool, when a woman approached her and punched her in the mouth.

The blow cut the inside of her lower lip.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the assault, which happened at around 8.25am on Wednesday to come forward.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "The victim has been left shaken and too frightened to attend the shops on her own."

The suspect is described as being in her early 20s, around 5ft 5ins tall, of very thin build with black hair.

She was said to be wearing light grey and dark blue jogging bottoms and a pink pyjama top.

Anyone who witnessed the attack or anyone with information is asked to contact PC Natasha Vaughan, of Hartlepool Police, on (01642) 302178 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
