A MODERN classroom had a Victorian look for the day as children dressed up as part of a school project.
Year 5 pupils at Blackhall Primary School have been hard at work learning about Victorians in history.
They swapped their uniform for flat caps, waistcoats and long dresses as they stepped into clothes similar to those worn by their predecessors.
Staff at the school, in Middle Street, Blackhall Colliery, said they were “amazed” by the amount of effort which had been put in to the children’s outfits.
Kay Stephenson, class seven teacher at the school, said: “We sent a letter out to parents not so long ago letting them know that we were planning a Victorian day.
“All of the children got prepared at home and the outfits were absolutely brilliant.
“The staff were amazed at how much effort had gone in, credit must go to the parents.”
Mrs Stephenson said the day was organised to offer something a little bit different for the children and said it was a huge success.
The school are also set to hold a Victorian-themed Christmas fair early next month.
