A TOP scientist from a hit television show helped inspire the next generation.
Dr John Kilcoyne, who starred in the popular Brainiac show on Sky 1, spent time with dozens of Year 9 pupils from three Hartlepool secondary schools talking them through a series of experiments.
The aim of the day at Hartlepool Sixth Form College, in Blakelock Road, was to inspire the next generation of scientists.
A total of 60 pupils from Dyke House Sports and Technology College, English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College and Manor College of Technology plus college students went along for the hour-long Flash, Bang, Chemistry show.
The show was packed with explosions, flashes and noises.
Alison Willetts, director of faculty at the college, said the pupils were excited for the visit and the day also gave them a chance to get some hands on experience in a series of workshops, which featured extracting drugs from plants and the use of chemicals in the lighting industry.
