Pools moved five points clear of League Two's drop zone with a superb 3-1 victory at the Hive against the in-form Bees.

It did not look good for Pools when they fell behind .to a super shot from Barnet midfielder Fum Shomotun.

But the reaction from Hignett's side was excellent.

Lewis Hawkins hammered in two stunning goals in the space of six first-half minutes - his first and second goals for Pools.

And when Nathan Thomas scored his first goal since his move from Mansfield Town in January Pools were in charge.

“I’m delighted, the lads have shown unbelievable character," he said.

"We went behind on 11 minutes and, given what happened the other night, we could have folded.

"But we didn't. I have really good characters here.

"I felt that was coming.

"I always thought we were capable of scoring a few.

"Lewis's first goal was unbelievable and goals change games.

"His second was another really good finish from the edge of the box.

"Nathan has threatened for a few weeks and it was a great finish.

"That gave us a bit of breathing space and I thought we saw the game out nicely from there."
