Beach is praised in survey

A BEACH has won praise in a national survey.

The North Gare beach at Seaton Carew has won an award in the Good Beach Guide run by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).

It is among 461 beaches nationwide given the top “recommended” award for having excellent bathing water quality in the guide, the third highest number in the guide’s 24-year history, and a significant increase on last year.

The MCS welcomed the figures but said stricter standards coming into force from 2015, although they are being monitored from next year, raising concerns that almost double the number of beaches could fail in the future.
