Beach man released

THE man at the centre of a six-hour beach stand-off has been released from hospital.

The 42-year-old Hartlepool man had been receiving treatment in the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, and is due to be quizzed by police officers in due course.

He was taken to hospital following the drama which unfolded around 2pm on Monday when he drove a Land Rover vehicle erratically up and down Seaton Carew beach and into the sea, forcing police to cordon off sections of the resort for public safety.

The incident came to an end around 8.15pm when the man was eventually arrested.
