BEAUTIFUL Becky Bell will be remembered at a fundraising memorial evening – a year after the schoolgirl tragically lost her brave battle with brain cancer.
The adorable youngster, who touched the lives of thousands of people, was just seven years old when she passed away in January this year following a gruelling and devastating ordeal.
Despite their grief, Becky’s loving and dedicated family have raised a staggering £10,000 in memory of the former Rift House Primary School pupil since her devastating death with fundraising evenings.
That fund was boosted even more as Becky’s mum, Julie, 41, took part in this year’s Race for Life and her dad, Mark, 37, completed the Miles for Men event in the town.
Julie and Mark know the first Christmas without Becky is going to be incredibly tough but they are focusing their efforts on a memorial evening for Becky in January – remembering the youngster the way she would have wished.
“We don’t want the night to be doom and gloom,” said Julie, also a mum of Vicki, 24, and Mark, 12.
“We want it to be happy, remembering the lovely times we had with Becky.
“For Becky’s last birthday we had a fancy dress and she absolutely loved it so we have decided to make this fancy dress as well, but it’s only optional because I know some people don’t like dressing up.”
The event will take place on Friday, January 29, at the Belle Vue Way Social Club, in Kendal Road, from 7.30pm.
Popular band the Style Selektors will entertain the expected packed house and various auctions and raffles will also be held on the night.
All of the cash raised will be donated to Clic Sargent. Becky’s family have supported the children’s cancer charity closely throughout 2012 and, to her absolute delight, Julie was chosen to be an ambassador for the charity earlier this year.
“We weren’t going to have any more fundraising evenings but we thought it would be something to set our target on over Christmas and it’s a lovely way to celebrate Becky and her life,” added Julie.
“It will be good fun, which is exactly what Becky would have wanted.
“The support we have had off people over the last year has been incredible, absolutely fantastic.”
Tickets for the event in January are on sale this week, priced at £3.
