Walker has made an incredible start to life as a centre-half after his switch from midfield, following the injury to Matthew Bates.

But, having mastered some of League Two’s most prolific forwards, tomorrow he must quell the man known as ‘the Beast’ – powerhouse Wycombe striker Adebayo Akinfenwa.

“He’s big, he’s strong,” Jones said. “I’ve played with people like that, who are just as strong, Garry Thompson at Coventry.

“I’ve played against similar types, like Cyrille Regis at West Brom, he was a man mountain.

“Once when I was playing against him for Everton I had hold of him by the neck and Mick Lyons had him round the waist and he still dragged us 20 yards! It’s all part of Brad’s learning process.”
