A SOCIAL club is set to be transformed into the bar immortalised in hit TV comedy Benidorm – and people are being urged to join in the fun.

Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher, Hartlepool’s Ceremonial Mayor, aims to re-create the atmosphere of Neptune’s, the popular karaoke bar at the Solana all-inclusive resort hotel on which the television series is based.

And to bring a touch of authenticity to the event, he has secured the services of singer Shaun Foster Conley who has appeared in the show. Another singer, Missy D, will also be performing at the event.

The Benidorm Night will take place on Friday, November 29, from 7pm, at Seaton Carew Social Club, in Station Lane.

Coun Akers-Belcher urged people to buy tickets as the cash will go to worthy causes in the town.

He said: “I’m a great fan of the television series Benidorm and I’m looking to create some of the fun.

“I’m delighted that Shaun Foster Conley has agreed to perform on the night and his appearance will go a long way to helping to recreate the fun atmosphere of Neptune’s as seen on television.

“I’m also grateful that Missy D has agreed to perform, and it should all add up to a great party night.

“The event will also be a chance for people to forget the cold winter weather outside and rekindle memories of holidays in Spain in warmer climes.

“It’s also a great opportunity for groups of friends or work colleagues to hold their Christmas parties “

Tickets are priced at £6, including a pie and peas supper.

All proceeds will go to Coun Akers-Belcher’s Charity Fund in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, the Pansies Breast Cancer Support Group and the Denise Taylor Cancer Trust.

People wanting tickets should contact Karen Mason or Eileen Larkin at Hartlepool Borough Council on (01429) 523702.
