A TEAM of workers cycled across Teesside to raise money for young adult carers.
The staff, who work at the Co-operative Funeralcare in Hartlepool, Sunderland, and Washington cycled 24 miles from Strathmore House in Hartlepool to the Co-operative’s Foodstore at Marske.
They were greeted by staff from the foodstore who then set off themselves on their own sponsored walk to Whitby as part of The Co-operative’s Round the Region Relay covering the 550- mile boundaries of the Co-operative’s North region in aid of Carers Trust, the Co-operative’s Charity of the Year.
Co-operative & membership officer Kevin McGrother, who is co-ordinating the relay, sdaid he has been delighted with the funeralcare team’s contribution, while they have also been praised by charity bosses.
He said: “It was a great effort and we look forward to hearing how much the team raised through sponsorship.”
Carers Trust regional fundraiser Terrie Oakshott said “It’s great that these funeralcare staff were prepared to give up their day off and we are really grateful for their efforts.
“The money they, and the other relay participants, raise will help us make a real difference to the lives of unpaid young adult carers - young people who are often isolated and unsupported in caring for their loved ones.”
