BIRTHDAY boy Dave King had a day to remember after scooping £500 on a lottery scheme which helps fund Hartlepool United’s youth development.

The 49-year-old won the cash prize on the club’s new Goldline Lottery Scheme, which launched eight weeks ago in conjunction with Bolton Wanderers, on the same day he celebrated his birthday.

It costs £1 a week to join the scheme, for which people get entered into a draw for £500 each week day and a weekend draw worth up to £5,000.

Of every £1 donated, 70p goes directly to the League One club’s Youth Development programme.

Dave’s win means the scheme has already served up four £500 winners in Hartlepool.

Dave, joint landlord at the Millhouse Inn Pub, in Rium Terrace, Hartlepool, and a driving tutor for El Passo, said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw he’d scooped one of the daily jackpots.

The Hartlepool United fan said: “I noticed a story on the club’s Facebook page that said there was another £500 winner from Hartlepool so I clicked on it to see if I knew them – it never crossed my mind it would be me.

“It was such a big surprise but a great early birthday present and it’ll come in handy to pay for my new season ticket, as well as go towards my upcoming holiday.”

He has urged other supporters to take part in the lottery to help fund youth development at the Clarence Road club.

Dave, who celebrated his birthday on Thursday, added: “I entered the Goldline Lottery as soon as I heard about it and I have put some posters up around the pub and let people sign-up from there if they want to.

“Since my win there has been a lot more interest and plenty of people have been congratulating me and asking how they can get involved too.

“It’s such a great way to give a little something to the club which can have a direct impact on our youth development and hopefully help bring through the next big star.”

Russ Green, the club’s chief executive, said he was “thrilled” to see another winner in the town and has urged more supporters to sign up.

Mr Green said: “It’s amazing that we’ve had four £500 winners in such a short space of time.

“This is really important income for the club though and while we’re really pleased with the response so far, the more people we can get on board every week the better.

“As you can see, there’s a great chance to win a big cash prize but you’ll also be helping channel much-needed funds in to our Youth Development fund.”
