Blackburn boss opens up on interest in Hartlepool-born Middlesbrough winger

The Hartlepool-born winger, 20, helped Rovers win promotion from League One last campaign, despite an injury-hit loan spell at Ewood Park.

Since his return to Teesside, Chapman has played twice for Boro in the Carabao Cup, but remains on the fringes of Tony Pulis' first team.

And, for that reason, Mowbray, who managed Boro between 2010 and 2013, has been monitoring the situation.

“The Chapman situation is mainly out of our hands. I’ve spoken to Tony Pulis and understand that teams don’t want to leave themselves short," said Mowbray.

“Let’s see what happens. He’s a very talented young player and we understand if Boro want to keep him."

Pulis has expressed a desire to sign another winger before tonight's 5pm loan deadline, after missing out on Yannick Bolasie.

If Boro are unable to land another wideman, the door could swing open for Chapman, who featured heavily in pre-season.

That would make Boro more reluctant to let him leave on loan, and Pulis has no doubts about the player's ability.

"It’s another situation that we’ll decide in the next 24 hours," said the Boro boss.

“We think Harry is a good young player who’s got a lot of potential.

“If it’s right for the club and for Harry we have to make that decision. If not, he stays here.”
