Boat towed back to shore after breaking down off Hartlepool coast

A boat carrying five people was helped by a team of volunteers after it broke down five miles off Hartlepool's coast.

Humber Coastguard requested Hartlepool RNLI to assist the 27ft fishing boat with five people on board that had suffered mechanical failure five miles east of Hartlepool.

The call was made at 10.26am on Saturday.

A spokesman for the team said: "The all weather lifeboat with volunteer crew launched at 10.42am and was alongside the fishing boat that had restarted its engine at 10.58am.

"The vessel was escorted back to Kafiga Landings at the Headland arriving at 11.25am.

"The all weather lifeboat returned to the Ferry Road lifeboat station at 11.35am to be refuelled and was ready for service by 11.55am."
