A MAN’s body was discovered in a field by an early-morning dog walker.
Police are not treating the death of the 52-year-old man as suspicious after the grim find in a field behind Dixon Estate, in Shotton Colliery at around 9.30am on Saturday.
A relative of the man had contacted police early on Saturday morning to say they were worried because he had gone out for a long walk and had not returned home.
Shortly afterwards officers received a call from a shocked dog walker who had found the body of a man in a field.
A Durham Police spokeswoman said: “We received a call from a relative of the man saying they were concerned because he had gone out for a walk and hadn’t returned home.
“We then received a call from a dog walker who had found the body of a man in a field behind Dixon Estate.
“The man’s next of kin has been informed.
“The man hadn’t suffered any injuries or trauma, there are no suspicious circumstances.”
