Families flocked to the village hall to enter the apple of their eyes in the fun event that brought the community together.

And they had to call the midwife to take on the difficult task of deciding the winners.

The competition was divided into four categories for babies aged from 0 to six months, six to 12 months, 12-18 months and 18-30 months.

Star of the show was five-month-old Nancy Coulson who won the 0-6 months section and was named overall winner.

Proud mum Natalie Downes, 32, of Egerton Terrace, said: “We are over the moon. I didn’t want to enter at first.”

Each of the winners were presented with rosettes and a card containing £15 for a first place, £10 for second and £5 for third.

The baby show followed a special church service marking the nativity of St John the Baptist, attended by residents, Hospital of God residents and Greatham Primary School pupils.

Mandy Farrell, of Greatham Feast Committee, said of the baby show: “It has been a really good turnout and has been lovely to see so many mums and family members support the day.”

Four days of festivities started on Thursday night with pub games.

The community centre was busy again yesterday afternoon when it laid on pensioners’ teas.

The highlight of the feast was taking place this afternoon with a fete on the village green followed by the Leanne Rivers Band on the night.

Mandy added: “If the weather holds it should be a great day.”
