Boy, 16, killed in police chase collision

A 16-year-old boy has died in a collision during a police chase.

The incident happened at about 8pm on Tuesday, after officers in a marked police vehicle sighted a Ford Focus containing a number of people, in Middlesbrough.

Officers activated the police vehicle’s lights and sirens, however, the Ford Focus failed to stop.

A short pursuit ensued, during which the Ford Focus was in collision with a Nissan Qashqai which was being driven near the junction of Park Road North and Park Vale Road in Middlesbrough.

A 16-year-old boy in the Focus suffered serious injuries during the collision. He was later pronounced dead at James Cook University Hospital.

Two men, aged 17 and 22, have been arrested in connection with the incident and inquiries are ongoing.

Cleveland Police has notified the Independent Police Complaints Commission as is required in such circumstances.
