Mr Arnott was joined by a number of Hartlepool Ukip members including some of the party’s borough councillors.

He said the campaign wanted bring control over Britain back from the rules and bureaucracy of the European Union and Brussels.

Mr Arnott said: “The remain campaign don’t believe we are good enough to run our own country, decide our own laws or decide the kind of country we want to be.

“We are told we can’t go it alone but there are 167 countries in the world not in the European Union.

“I believe we can not only survive outside the EU, we can thrive.”

Mr Arnott made reference to battleship HMS Trincomalee which is berthed in Hartlepool and he said fought to protect Britain’s freedom.

He said: “We in Hartlepool still have to fight today. We have got to fight for our freedom and from what I see people in Hartlepool are strongly in favour of our freedoms.

“That’s what we want on June 23, we want our country back. Vote to put me out of a job.”

Vote Leave says Britain should stop sending £350 million per week to unelected politicians in Brussels, and spend our money on priorities like the NHS.

The Britain Stronger in Europe campaign today claims that more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs will be created in the UK if we stay in the EU – 5,640 in the North East.

That is the claim of a new report by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR).
