Brigade’s help for jobless young

A FIRE brigade is helping jobless youngsters get a foot on the job ladder through an intensive 12-week course.

Cleveland Fire Brigade is giving 15 people aged 16 to 25 the opportunity to gain a Prince’s Trust Certificate in employment, teamwork and community skills, a nationally recognised qualification.

The next free Prince’s Trust team programme begins on Monday, January 23.

It offers young people the opportunity to meet new friends and work together to carry out a range of tasks.

The full-time programme includes a one-week residential team building exercise, carrying out a community project, a work placement and a team challenge.

Other support is also offered, including help with CVs and job searching.

Abby Burton, Prince’s Trust team leader with Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: “This programme will help young people plan their futures – in many cases it has changed lives.

“A taster day is being held on Wednesday, January 18, so those who express their interest before then can come along and experience what the course has to offer.”
