PUBLIC transport chiefs have frozen bus fares for Hartlepool passengers.

Stagecoach, which runs bus services in Hartlepool and other parts of the North East, has announced that there will be no increase in bus fares for its customers.

The decision, which came after an annual review by company bosses, will not only benefit passengers in Hartlepool, but also across Teesside and Tyne and Wear.

A spokeswoman for Stagecoach said: “Stagecoach has confirmed that it is freezing bus fares right across the North East.

“Passengers in Tyne and Wear, Teesside and Hartlepool will see no change in the price of their bus tickets following an annual review.

“It means there has been no increase in Stagecoach bus fares in the North East since March 2013.

“This is a real terms price cut to help the region with highest UK unemployment rate and the fact that buses vital to the local economy and accessing key public services.”
