Business “first” for Hartlepool

A FIRST-EVER business showcase of its type is on the way to Hartlepool.

Firms are invited to a five-hour summit at Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience and organisers are hailing it as a chance to get expert advice as well as a chance to make new contacts.

It will be held on Wednesday, September 5, from noon, at the Historic Quay after a link-up between the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and Hartlepool Borough Council’s enterprise team.

FSB Hartlepool branch chairwoman Pam Hargreaves said: “It is intended to be an opportunity for people in business, or people thinking of starting a business, to find out what support is available.

“They can also network with other people in business and gather contacts of useful people.”

Another highlight, said Pam, would be a “series of top tips sessions”.

The showcase will run from noon to 5pm and Pam added: “All the support agencies will be exhibiting and businesses who provide services will be taking a number of stands.”

An interesting twist on the day will be events held every half an hour where a person gives a talk on the lessons learned so far.

“We will have people on a soapbox,” said Pam.

“We will also have people talking about top 10 tips including how to upset the taxman, how to avoid ending up in a tribunal, procurement, leadership and management and growing a business through the people.”

She added: “It is intended to be a big showcase event for Hartlepool and businesses in Hartlepool.

“We are encouraging people to go along and they can take a stall of they want to, as a support organisation or a business.

“It is for any business.”

The cost is £50 for FSB members and £75 for non-FSB members.
