A Hartlepool landscaping firm has become an award winner.

And more good news could be on the way for Acorn Landscapes which has already picked up the regional prize for Most Creative Use of Marshalls Product in a competition run by paving stone specialists Marshalls.

The firm based on the Graythorp Industrial Estate will find out on March 18 whether it has won the national title – and possibly a Toyota Hilux vehicle.

Company director Paul Turnbull, who started the business in 2004, said: “It is nice to get the recognition. I am totally passionate about landscaping and I love doing it.

“For the business world to give us an award, that shows we are doing work to a high standard and to a consistently high standard of work.”

Acorn, which is one of 1,070 Marshall registered businesses, submitted the work it did on a garden in Billingham as its award entry.

Paul said: “To reach the nationals means we are down to the top 20 in the country.”

Judges pick the best entries to represent the north and south of the country in the finals, meaning Acorn faces on rival from the south of the country in a two-horse race to the category title.

One of the 10 national category winners will then be chosen as an overall winner.

Paul added: “The worst we can be is a national runner-up in our category.”

But it’s already another great boost for Acorn which won the best newcomer category in last year’s competition.
