Supermarket chain Aldi is advertising hundreds of deputy store manager jobs externally for the first time.

Around 700 positions are set to be filled as the firm expands, opening new stores to add to its current total of over 500.

James Hutcheson, regional managing director for Aldi, which has two stores in Hartlepool and one in Peterlee, said: “Aldi is continuing to experience strong growth across the UK, and as a result, we are opening up the deputy store manager position nationwide.”

A survey of 2,000 adults for Aldi found that almost half believed the retail industry did not pay well - a trend the supermarket chain said it was reversing, with pay rising to £10.50 an hour for deputy store managers.
