RESIDENTS can look forward to better internet access after a media firm announced plans to boost connections throughout Hartlepool.

Virgin Media has announced it is expanding its network to 5,000 more homes across Hartlepool and surrounding areas, providing internet access at speeds up to 152Mb or eight times faster than the national average.

Work is well underway to connect more households in Hartlepool and is expected to be complete by the end of October.

Streets in Hartlepool which have received the speed boost include Ashwood Close, Davison Drive, Duke Street and Queen Street.

The firm claim the expansion will see the UK’s fastest widely available broadband, twice as fast as its rivals BT, Sky or TalkTalk.

Tom Mockridge, Virgin Media’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Extending our network across the region means thousands more homes will benefit from the UK’s fastest widely available broadband for the very first time.

“We are proud to be supercharging Hartlepool, helping people make the most of the UK’s exciting digital future.”
