TEENAGE entrepreneur Charlotte Wells is going into business for the first time – and she is doing it with a red hot idea.
The 17-year-old from Hartlepool has come up with a great way of getting into the world of commerce and industry.
She has launched a candle-making business and is enjoying early successes in her venture. Orders are believed to be coming in from all over the North-East as well as one customer who is taking one of the goods home to the USA.
In fact, Charlotte is doing so well, she can boast that her proud mum Lisa is on board as a first stockist.
Charlotte is a former student of High Tunstall College of Science and comes from the Jesmond Road area of town.
Her unique selling point is that she makes candles before putting them into dainty china cups. Her business acumen does not end there.
She also makes buntings and incense sticks and sells them via her new company which is called Delight Candles.
Life is already looking promising for the firm which has its own Facebook site.
It also sells produce from Number 33, the cafe based in Park Road, in Hartlepool, and which is run by Charlotte’s mum Lisa Wells.
Charlotte said: “Delight Candles has been going for about three months now and I think it is going really well.”
If business really takes off, Charlotte said she may take up an offer to open up in a shop in Derby where she also has relatives.
Lisa said: “I am proud that she is really trying to make a go of this, of starting her own business. I am supporting her as much as I can.”
She said she was hoping to set up a workshop above Number 33 for Charlotte to make her produce. “We have two empty rooms and we shall be looking to buy equipment for it.”
