BRITAIN’S beer bigwigs raised a toast to Hartlepool’s MP for supporting the brewery trade.

Iain Wright received a certificate and souvenir pump clip to recognise his backing for Britain’s national drink during the 2010-2015 Parliament.

“The beer industry is an important part of British economic and social life. It is especially important in Hartlepool, with the valued contribution made by Cameron’s over the last 150 years.

He received the honour from Yousef Doubooni, marketing manager at Camerons Brewery, on behalf of the British Beer & Pub Association and SIBA, the Society of Independent Brewers.

Bosses praised Mr Wright for helping to achieve consecutive cuts in beer duty in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 Budgets, and helping to safeguard jobs and investment.

Mr Wright said: “The beer industry is an important part of British economic and social life. It is especially important in Hartlepool, with the valued contribution made by Cameron’s over the last 150 years.”

Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of the British Beer & Pub Association, said MPs of all parties “deserve our thanks and recognition.”

SIBA managing director Mike Benner said MPs had helped create “a far more optimistic outlook for our industry.”

Yousef Doubooni thanked Mr Wright for his help to abolish the alcohol duty escalator which “was the catalyst that has seen a reduction in beer duty for the last three years”.
