A NURSERY worker is celebrating after his training work saw him awarded professional status.

Stuart Shepherd, a nursery assistant at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, has become the first male nursery practitioner in Hartlepool to be awarded Early Years Professional Status.

Town man Stuart, 26, who has worked at Rainbow Nursery at the University Hospital of Hartlepool for the past six years, completed the graduate level programme, which is the only Government endorsed professional accreditation for the early year’s sector, after years of studying to achieve a degree in children and early childhood.

Stuart, who lives in the Burn Valley area of Hartlepool, said: “It has been hard work, but it’s worth it.

“I’ve always enjoyed learning and I’m glad I’ve done the course. It’s good to learn about the theory and put it into practice.

“I absolutely love working here, I couldn’t imagine doing any other job. It’s a great nursery for not only the trust staff’s children but anyone who wants to use the nursery.”

Child care co-ordinator Margaret Hayden added: “I’d like to congratulate Stuart on such a fantastic result. This demonstrates Stuart’s commitment to learning and dedication to his profession.”
