High worldwide TripAdvisor ranking for Hartlepool hotel

A HARTLEPOOL hotel has been placed in the top performing 10 per cent of all businesses worldwide on review website TripAdvisor.

The Douglas Hotel, in Grange Road, in the town, has received a 2013 Certificate of Excellence, which is given to businesses that consistently earn high ratings from TripAdvisor travellers.

The hotel changed hands around 18 months ago and staff have declared their delight at the high number of complimentary reviews leading to the award for excellence.

Lee Pennick, 45, manager of the hotel, said: “To get in the top 10 per cent is obviously really good.

“TripAdvisor is massive and is used by millions of people so to get that recognition is absolutely fantastic.

“We have spent a lot of money over the last 18 months and worked extremely hard and the priority for us is always looking after our residents and looking after our rooms.

In an added boost, the hotel’s restaurant, Ruskins Bistro, is also ranked as the town’s best place to eat on the website.

“To get the number one restaurant spot is great and we plan to renovate the restaurant to make it more contemporary in the next 12 months,” added Lee, a dad-of-five who lives in Seaton Carew.
