THE number of people looking for work in Hartlepool fell to its lowest level in six years last month.
There were 2,648 people receiving Jobseeker’s Allowance – paid only to those classed as actively looking for work – in the Hartlepool constituency area in October.
That represents a drop of 127 on September’s figure of 2,775 and is the lowest figure since July 2008, when there were 2,565 claimants in the town.
The number of claimants has fallen by 1,313 this year.
In Easington, there were 1,794 claimants last month, down from 1,903 in September. The claimant count in Stockton North was 2,556, compared to 2,598 in September and in Sedgefield, there were 1,425 claimants, down from 1,473 the previous month.
