Jobless figures down again in Hartlepool – but still twice national average

The number of people claiming unemployment benefits in Hartlepool has fallen in the last month.

In July, a total of 2,938 people in the town claimed Jobseekers Allowance.

That was down slightly compared to figures for June when it was 3,045 people.

But Hartlepool’s unemployment rate, according to Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) claimants, is higher at five per cent than the North East average which stands at 3.5 per cent and more than twice the national rate which is 2.4 per cent.

Figures were also down slightly across the rest of the region.

In the Easington constituency, which includes Peterlee, JSA claimants also fell by 63 between June and July to 1,888.

Numbers were down in Stockton North, which includes Billingham, Wolviston and parts of Wynyard.

There were 2,773 claimants in July, down from 2,869 the previous month.

And in Sedgefield July saw 1,442 men and women out of work on JSA, a reduction of 42 from June.

We will have reaction to the figures online soon.
