INSPIRED entrepreneur Laura Murray is opening her first hair salon at the age of 20 – but she’s no newcomer to the business.

The Hartlepool born and bred woman first started working in a hairdressers in the town centre when she was just 13.

She never looked back and has now taken the plunge to become a business boss herself.

Laura has opened Laura’s Locks in Duke Street and the former High Tunstall College of Science student said: “I have always wanted to open my first shop.

“I decided to go for it now. I had served my time working as an apprentice in a salon and when I completed that, I wanted to get a salon of my own.”

She spotted the premises in Duke Street around two months ago and, with the help of family, set it up as her first business premises.

She said: “It is a unisex salon and I will be taking on an apprentice in the next couple of weeks. My aim is to use really good products but still keep the prices as low as I can.

“I will also be doing hair extensions on evenings from a couple of weeks time, and I am hoping business takes off.”
