Profits boost for firm housebuilders

A HOUSE-BUILDING firm with a Hartlepool site has announced half-year pre-tax profits of nearly £60m.

Persimmon, the parent company of Persimmon Homes Teesside, saw its performance for the first half of this year improve by 52 per cent from the same period last year when its pre-tax profits were £39.4m.

But house sales over the same period were down from 4.657 last year to 4,439 this year.

Group chairman Nicholas Wrigley said: “We remain committed to our strategic objectives of margin improvement and cash generation. As a consequence, our teams across the country will remain focused on the basics of house building in their local markets which I am confident will deliver future success for the group.”

David Jenkinson, regional chairman of Persimmon Homes North East and Teesside, said: “As we have a wide geographic spread of development sites throughout Teesside and the North-East, we are placed in a position that allows us to benefit from current market conditions.”

“We look forward to continuing our success during 2011 and beyond, and will remain dedicated to our customers by working hard to ensure that we understand and meet their different needs.” Persimmon Homes Teesside has been operating since January 2004 and is currently building on 60 developments across the area, including The Hawthorns in Hartlepool.
