AN enterprise chief has been given a national role after 16 years of boosting industry in areas including Hartlepool.
Simon Hamilton, 44, has been appointed managing director of UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE), which is the business-support subsidiary of Tata Steel.
Mr Hamilton is currently the regional manager for UKSE covering the North of England and Scotland. He is the man with the responsibility for the multi-million pound flagship innovation centre on the Queens Meadow Business Park in Hartlepool.
He has taken over the national role from Stuart Green who is retiring after 13 years as managing director.
Mr Hamilton said: “It has been hugely satisfying to be part of the regeneration effort in the North over the past sixteen years and to see so many UKSE-supported businesses start-up, thrive and create jobs and wealth for the region.”
He said he was looking forward to the challenge of his new role and said he was glad that it meant he would be keeping his close links with the North East.
